그리스도 안에 거한다는 것은(R.A. 토레이)

 

그리스도 안에 거한다는 것은 우리 자신의 독자적인 삶을 포기한다는 것입니다. 우리 자신의 생각을 생각하고, 우리 자신의 결심을 만들어내고, 우리 자신의 감정을 배양하려는 노력을 포기해야 합니다. 우리는 단순히 우리 안에 갖고 계신 그리스도의 뜻을 생각하고, 우리 안에 갖고 계신 그분의 목적이 이루어지고, 그분의 감정과 정서가 우리 안에서 느껴지도록 끊임없이 그리스도를 바라보아야 합니다. 그리스도 안에 거하는 삶은 그리스도로부터 독자적으로 이루어지는 모든 삶을 버리고 그분의 생명이 우리 안에 흘러 들어오도록, 그분의 삶의 역사가 우리를 통해 이루어지도록 끊임없이 그분을 바라보는 것입니다. 우리가 이렇게 할 때 우리가 기도로 하나님께 구하는 것을 얻게 될 것입니다. …

무슨 신비한 묵상이나 황홀한 체험의 순간들을 통해 그리스도 안에 거하기를 배우는 것이 아닙니다. 그리스도 안에 거하는 것을 배우려면 그분의 말씀, 성경에 기록된 그분의 말씀을 계속 섭취하고, 그 말씀들이 우리 마음 속에 살아 역사하도록 만드시기 위해 그 말씀들을 우리 마음 속에 심어주시도록 성령님을 바라보아야 합니다.

 

To abide in Christ is to renounce any independent lives of our own. We must give up trying to think our own thoughts, form our own resolutions, or cultivate our own feelings. We must simply and constantly look to Christ to think His thoughts in us, to form His purposes in us, to feel His emotions and affections in us. It is to renounce all life independent of Christ and constantly look to Him for the inflow of His life into us and the outworking of his Life through us. When we do this, our prayers will obtain what we seek from God. …

It is not my moments of mystical meditation and rapturous experiences that we learn to abide in Christ. It is by feeding on His Word, His written word in the Bible, and looking to the Spirit to implant these words in our hearts to make them a living thing in our hearts.
