종말의 전조인가? 눈으로 뒤덮인 스위스의 거리

 

2월 5일 스위스 제네바 인근 레만호의 호반 도시  ’Versoix’  에서 믿기 어려운 일이 일어 났습니다. 

사람들이 잠에서 깨어 보니 온 도시가 얼음에 뒤덮혀 버렸습니다. 꼭 영화 ‘투모로우’와 같은 장면이 펼쳐 졌던 것입니다.

 

 시민들이 이 장관을 보기 위해 거리로 나왔습니다. 한 어린이가 아버지 손을 잡고 산책길을 뒤덮은 얼음을 만져 보고 있습니다.

유럽을 휘감고 있는 살인 한파, 일요일에도 희생자는 계속 발생했고 광범위한 지역에서 교통혼란이 이어졌습니다. 이 한파가 다음주에도 이어질거라는 예보가 나오고 있는 가운데 스위스에서 5일 이런 장면이 연출된 것입니다.

 

 

 저게 진짜 차인지 얼음 조각 작품인지?

시민들이 얼음으로 뒤덮힌 차를 배경을 사진을 찍으며 즐거워하고 있습니다.

나뭇가지에 비스듬히 메달려 있는 고드름, 간밤에 강풍이 불었다는 증거겠죠.

얼음에 뒤덮힌 대포. 이건 2월 3일 사진. 3일에도 비슷한 일이 있었던 모양입니다.

도시를 뒤덮은 얼음. 사진의 저런 얼음은 어떻게 생길 걸까요?  사진 캡션에는 별 다른 설명이 없습니다. 

얼핏 호반 도시라 추운 겨울날 호수 쪽에서 시내쪽으로 강풍이 불어 호수에 큰 파도가 일고 거리를 덮친 파도가 얼어 붙어 저렇게 된 것 같습니다만 꼭 그런 것은 아닌 걸로 알고 있습니다.  

 

바람 속의 습기가 얼어 붙은 거라고 합니다. 호수에서 습기를 잔뜩 품은 바람이 불고 기온이 갑자기 떨어지면 저렇게 바람 속의 습기가 저런 형태로 얼어 붙는다고 합니다.  

‘Ice storm’이라고 하는 모양인데 착빙성(着氷性) 폭풍우로 번역하는 모양입니다.

레만호 인근 지역의 경우 파도로 인한 물방울도 많이 섞이겠지요?
