8장. 뉴에이지 운동 - 제4제국? [下]

The New Age Movement - the Fourth Reich?

 

나치즘을 일으킨 戰前의 분위기는 - 파시즘과 나치 형태의 철학들이 자라나기에 알맞은 - 현재의 분위기와 비슷하다. 이것은 많은 정치적 사건들로 인한 실망으로 절정을 이룬 분위기였다. 독일은, 전쟁 패배와 전후 인플레이션으로 인한 (정신적) 외상과 함께 이에 따른 어려움을 겪었었다. 독일 젊은이들은 그 시대의 가혹한 일상에서 탈피하기 위해 반더보겔wandervogel이나 동양 신비주의로 눈을 돌리려고 했는데, 그들은 - 고대 숙련자adept들은 절대 패하지 않으며 패배란 정신 상태로서만 존재했던 꿈의 나라never-never land의 신화 - 독일과 노르딕 신화와 함께 이것을 탐구했다.  

 

미국도 비슷한 상황에 놓여 있다. 우리의 국가적 자부심은 상처받았고 베트남 전쟁의 거짓은 드러났다. 군인들은 영웅적 환영 대신 조용히 무관심 속에 돌아 왔다. 나라는 경제 문제로 심한 고통 속에 잠겼다. 특히 베트남 전쟁 후 - 심지어 전쟁 중에도 - 반더보겔과 동양 신비주의로의 대중적 선회가 있었는데, 여기에는 - 전후 독일에서와 마찬가지로 - 광범위한 약물의 사용으로 가속화된 초월적 의식transcendental consciousness으로의 노정이 함께 했다.

 

신-이교주의neo-paganism의 부활과 대중들의 적극적인 동양 신비주의의 사용을 추구하던 사람들은 이런 경향을 반겼으나, 다른 사람들은 마땅히 이에 불안해했다.

 

특히 2차 세계대전 중 나치 독일에 점령당했던 나라들의 국민들과 나치즘의 위험에 대해 체험적으로 알고 있던 유럽의 학자들 사이에는 큰 우려가 존재했다.

 

두 명의 탁월한 프랑스 학자들은, 쟝-미쉘 앙게베르라는 연서joint signature 이름으로, 1974년 맥밀란 출판사에서 영문판이 출간된 그들의 고전 "오컬트와 제3제국"The Occult and the Third Reich에서 적는다:

 

히틀러 신화는 이것을 만들어낸 특정 철학 시스템의 맥락에서 볼 때만 이해가 될 수 있는데, 이 시스템 자체도 수 세기 전으로 돌아가는 역사 전통 속의 하나의 연결고리에 불과했다.

 

독일로 하여금 스와스티카(卍)를 받아들이도록 유도한 사람들은 아직 죽지 않았다. 그들은, 모든 시대에 그래왔듯이, 지금도 우리 안에 있으며 의심의 여지 없이 종말까지 그럴 것이다. 그들에게 국가 사회주의는 도구에 불과했으며, 히틀러도 도구에 불과했다. 프로젝트는 실패했다. 그들이 지금 시도하려는 것은 다른 방법을 사용해서 신화를 부활시키는 것이다. (p.xvi).

또는, 라인강 계곡을 단결요소로 삼아 국가들을 연합하려는 앞서의 "하이어라키의 프로젝트"에 대해 포스테 베일리가 전에 인용한 말을 다시 적으면: "이것은 어느 제자의 시도였지만 성공하지 못했다."

 

나치즘과 뉴에이저들의 우주론과 우주기원론은 똑같다.

 

나치즘과 뉴에이지 운동은 공히, "초월적 의식"으로의 "노정"path을 촉진시키고 "미스테리"로에 입문을 통해 대중을 탈바꿈transformation시키기 위한 프로그램이다. 오컬트 교설들과 이교도적 수행들이 히틀러 통치 중에 국가의 주류 속으로 주입되었다.

 

예를 들어, 하인리히 힘러Heinrich Himmler의 지휘 하에서 히틀러의 SS 친위대는 이교 미스테리에 집단 입문하도록 강요되었다. 아리안 성배 비전비법Aryan grail esoterics에 덮인채, 입문자의 목표는 심령력과 초인적 힘을 얻는 것이었다.

 

히틀러는 오컬트국(局)Bureau of the Occult 또는 아네네르베Ahnenerbe를 세웠는데, 이것은 그가 세운 독일정부의 일부이자 동시에 SS에 소속된 독립국이었다. 러시아와의 전선에 투입하기 위해 젊은이들을 징병한 것과 마찬가지로, 주요 학자들과 지식인들은 이 조직을 위해 연구하도록 징집되었다.

 

앨리스 베일리, 벤자민 크렘, 데이비드 스팽글러와 기타 많은 뉴에이지 작가들의 교설들은 말하기를, "새 시대"(뉴에이지)에는 우리가 집단 지구적 입문mass planetary initiation 과정을 겪을 것이라고 한다. "루시퍼 입문"이라고 불리는 이 "입문"의 세부내용은 "뉴에이지의 사타니즘과 루시퍼리즘"라는 제목의 장에서 논의된다. 같은 장에서는 또한, 뉴에이지 그리스도와 "입문"을 받아들이기를 거부하는 사람들에게 어떤 일이 일어날 것이라고 말하는 스팽글러의 진술에 대해서도 논한다.

 

히틀러를 비롯한 나치 에소테리시스트(秘敎주의자)esotericist들은 우주의 "대우주/소우주"Macrocosm/Microcosm설로 알려진 오컬트 교리를 믿었다. 이것 역시 일반적 뉴에이지 신념이다.

 

뉴에이지 에소테리시스트들은, 뉴에이지 메시야를 우두머리로 하는 "하이어라키"Hierarchy 속에 조직된 "마스터(대사/스승)"들의 존재를 믿는다. 마찬가지로 나치 역시 뉴에이지 그리스도가 이끄는 "마스터"들의 하이어라키의 존재를 믿었는데, 그들이 뉴에이지 그리스도로 여긴 사람은 그들의 히틀러였고 히틀러 자신 역시 그렇게 믿었다.

 

이런 교리적 연속이 가능한 이유는 신-이교주의/오컬트 교설들과 동양 신비주의의 에소테릭(秘傳) 교설들이 입문자, 숙련자, 마스터들의 시스템을 통해 보존되었기 때문이다. 쟝-미쉘 앙게베르의 "오컬트와 제3제국" 서문에 번역자는 이렇게 적었다:

 

이런 발견의 의미는, 서양에서는 신-이교적 연속체 또는 전통에 대해서 말할 이유들이 유대-기독교 전통에 대한 것들 만큼 많다는 것이다. 후자처럼 전자 역시 자신의 교리, 의식ritual, 상징, 선지자, 그리고 숙련자들을 가지고 있다. 다른 모든 주요 종교들처럼 이 역시 (비교적 브릴 소사이어티, 툴레 협회, 성배 탐색자들의 소사이어티, 그리고 오르덴부르겐 학교들Vril Society, Thule Society, Society of the Seekers of the Grail, and seminaries of the Ordensburgen에 의한 나치 혈통이 보여주듯이) 성직자를 통해 자신을 존속시킨다. 이는 입문 센터들에 위치한 오컬트 파워의 집중을 통해 이루어지는데, 그 지식과 상징들에는 대적들만큼이나 일반 대중들도 접근하기 어렵다. (p.xii).

 

수백가지의 참조 포인트 중에서, 또 하나의 재미있는 참조 포인트는 뉴에이저들이 요가, 명상, 마인트콘트롤 강좌 등의 다양한 "영적(영성) 훈련"spiritual disciplines을 받음으로써 그들이 우주와 함께 공동창조자가 될 수 있다고 일반적으로 믿는다는 것이다. 그들은 이런 수행(훈련)들로 자신들이 "진화"했다고 믿는다. 이런 점에서 그들의 진술과 히틀러의 언급 간에는 으스스한 유사점이 있다.

 

존 화이트는 1979년 국제협력위원회 디렉토리International Cooperation Council Directory (현재는 "다양성 속의 일치 위원회"Unity-in-Diversity Council로 알려짐)를 진행하며 말했다:

 

오늘날 발생하는 것은... 세대 차이도 소통의 단절도 아니다... 이것은 오히려 종(種) 간의 격차species gap이다. 새로운 종이 지구에 나타나서 그 삶의 권리를 주장한다. 이는 필연적으로 지배 종dominant species과의 충돌species gap을 일으킨다. 그 지배 종은 죽어가는 종이다... 이런 사건들과 그리고 심리기술, 영적 훈련과 신성한 전통들에 있어서의 매우 가속화된 관심과 개발은 새롭고 더 지적인 종이, 지배 종의 저항 가운데, 나타나 존재하도록 하여 통합된 지구문명을 발전시킨다.

 

생존진화(survivolution)가 일어나는 데 있어서 강력한 도약이 있을 것이다. 그 결과, 사람들 사이의 커다란 선별과정이 있을 것이다. 그들은 그들이 속한 종을 찾으려고 힘쓸 것이다... 우리는 어떤 의미에서 우주와 함께 공동창조자가 될 수 있다... 이것이 명상과 기타 영적 훈련이 추구하는 바이다...

 

새롭고 더 높은 인류의 종류가 지구를 지배함에 따라 오늘날 세계에서는 진화적 진전이 일어난다... 오래된 종이 과도한 불합리로 인해 멸종되는 반면  (그들은) 살아남는다. 겉으로는, 이 변종된 인류는 이전의 종류와 닮았다. 차이점은 내면에 있으며, 그들의 바뀐 사고방식, 그들의 의식에 있다.

 

나는 떠오르는 인류 형태를 호모 노에티쿠스Homo noeticus라고 이름짓는다. (페이지 13-15에서 발췌)

만약 이것이 나치 학자들과 비슷하게 들린다면 그 이유는 그것이 맞기 때문일 것이다. 히틀러 자신이 거의 똑같은 것을 말했다:

 

창조는 아직 완성되지 않았다. 인간은 앞으로도 많은 탈바꿈metamorphosis 단계를 거쳐야만 한다. 아틀란티스 이후Post-Atlantean 인간은 이미 퇴화와 쇠퇴 상태에 있으며 다만 가까스로 생존하고 있다... 모든 창조적 포스forces는 새로운 종에 집중될 것이다. 오래된 그리고 새로운, 두 종류의 인간은 다른 방향으로 급속히 진화할 것이다. 하나는 지구 상에서 사라질 것이고, 다른 하나는 번성할 것이다... 이것이 국가 사회주의 운동National Socialist Movement의 배경에 있는 참 동기다! (The Spear of Destiny by Trevor Ravenscroft, Bantam Book Edition, p. 250에 인용된 내용)

또한 그리고 아마 가장 중요하게도, 두 운동 모두 비입문자들을 오도하기 위한 "블라인드"blinds의 사용을 믿는다. 나치는, 뉴에이저들이 그렇게 하듯이, 참으로 사악한 행위들에 종종 상냥한 이름을 붙였다. 유대인과 집시들의 몰살을 살해라고 부르지 않았다. 이것은 "정화 행위"cleansing action라고 불렸다. 죽음의 수용소는 건강의 수용소로 보이도록 위장되었다. 지역 인구의 거대한 말살은 "재정착"resettlements이라는 이름이 붙여졌다.

 

"블라인드"의 사용은, 운동의 목표에 동감하지 않는 사람들로 하여금 "더 플랜"The Plan의 구체적인 사항들을 알지 못하게 하기 위한 공인된 전략이다. 그런 이유로, 뉴에이저들 역시 블라인드를 사용해서 일반 대중들이 그들의 전모를 알지 못하게 한다.

 

"블라인드"는 일반 독자들의 손에 들어가기 쉬운 오컬트 문서에 포함되고 있는 일부러 거짓되고 모순된 정보로 이루어지며, 앨리스 베일리가 시간을 지정해서 문서공개를 허용한 1975년 이래 뉴에이지 문서들에 들어 있다.

 

이 기법을 사용한 한 예가 헬레나 페트로바 블라바츠키의 "시크릿 독트린"The Secret Doctrine 아디아르판Adyar Edition 제5권에서 보여진다:

 

우리가 다루는 주제의 심오한 성격을 고려하여, 현재의 문서[2부]는 이전 문서[1부]에서 모호한 채로 남겨진 일부 포인트들과 또한 모순이 나타나는 것으로 보이는 문장들에 대한 설명으로 시작하겠다.

 

에소테리시스트(秘傳家)들esotericists 중에 많이 있는 점성술사들은 그들의 가르침에 뚜렷이 모순되는 일부 문장들에 의아해하기 쉽다. 반면에 이 분야의 문외한들은 처음에는, 카발라와 점성술의 [외부에 알려진] 엑소테릭exoteric 시스템을 연구한 사람들이 그들에 반대하는 것처럼 생각이 들지도 모른다. 확실히 알아야 할 것은, 인쇄되고, 방송되고, 공공도서관이나 박물관에서 누구든지 연구할 수 있는 그 어떤 것도 정말 에소테릭한 [비밀의, 숨겨진] 것은 없으며, 도리어 의도적인 블라인드와 혼합되었거나 또는 완벽한 오컬트 용어사전 없이는 이해하거나 연구해 얻을 것이 없는 것들이다. 앨리스 A. 베일리는, 그녀의 신비학당Arcane School 제자들에게 그리고 그녀의 책을 읽은 견습생과 입문자 지망자들에게 그녀 역시 마담 블라바츠키처럼 블라인드를 사용했음을 가르쳤다. 하지만 그들은 실은 이것을 걱정하지 않았다. 왜냐하면 그들은 - 지혜를 주시는 분이 하나님이심을 무시한 채 - 어차피 오직 입문자들만이 쓰여진 것을 이해할 수 있으리라고 굳게 믿었기 때문이다!

 

뉴에이지 운동의 조직은 섬뜩하게도 히틀러의 독일을 상기시킨다. "다양성 속의 일치 위원회"Unity-in-Diversity Council와 그리고 네트워크들의 네트워크임을 천명하는 "우리가 선택하는 세계을 위한 지구 계획"Planetary Initiative for the World We Choose 같은 운동의 母위원회 말고는, 뉴에이지 운동은 자체로는 어떤 단체로 조직되어 있지 않다.  (부록 B는 그들의 목표들과 조직구성을 보여주는 "다양성 속의 일치 위원회"로부터의 샘플 자료들을 포함한다.)

 

대신 이것은 핵심에 몇 개의 중요한 중추 기구를 가진, 글자 그대로 네트워크들의 네트워크다. 그들이 채택한 특정한 조직 형태의 장점은  - 짐 존스가 그랬듯이 - 어느 한 조직이나 개인이 그들을 난처하게 만들게 되면, 그들은 재빨리 그물망 형태의 구조를 닫음으로써 그 개인이나 조직이 마치 전혀 그들의 일부가 아니었던 것처럼 그 개인 또는 조직을 제외할 수 있다는 것이다.

나치즘

(1) Nazism was an offshoot of occultic practices and teachings. The Nazis had a Bureau of the Occult as part of the German government under Hitler. This was known as the SS Occult Bureau. Another such agency was the Nazi Occult Bureau.
(2) Nazism taught the doctrine of Aryanism and Aryan purity and that the "New Age" would feature an Aryan mutant "master race."
(3) Nazism features hatred of Jews and an ancient occultic doctrine of a blood taint resting on the Jews and that there was a need for a final "correct solution" to this "Jewish problem."
(4) Hitler was an initiate of occultic practices, including yoga, Tibetanism, hypnotism, and the Secret Doctrine of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and the Tibetan Masters.
(5) Nazism featured the quest for the "Holy Grail" as a path to transcendental or higher consciousness."
(6) The Nazis believed in the Law of Karma and reincarnation.
(7) The Nazis and particularly Hitler sought to embody Luciferic energies.
(8) Hitler used mescaline to speed up consciousness expansion.
(9) The Nazis thought they had evolved into a new and superior species by means of "spiritual disciplines" and "consciousness evolution."
(10) Hitler encouraged the organization of young men into the Brown Shirts for the purpose of keeping order in the cities and village neighborhoods. The Brown Shirts were trained in the martial arts such as karate and generally performed guard-type operations.
(11) Members of the SS
(Schutzstaffel), or protection squad, were inducted by a pagan-style initiation ceremony.
(12) The Nazis believed in breeding of children controlled by the state.
(13) The Nazis operated free maternity homes in the interests of breeding a master race.
(14) Hitler encouraged the recruitment and use of convicts.
(15) Nazism sought the institution of a New World Order in which the Aryan race would predominate and control.
(16) Nazism was a synthesis of occultism and gnosticism, based on The Secret Doctrine and a synthesis of the old "Mystery Teachings" and Eastern Religions.
(17) Nazism came to power by Hitler appealing to the rich that his regime would increase their control and be more efficient and telling the poor that his regime would mean sufficient resources for them to exist on.
(18) Nazi adepts believed the gods lived in Shamballa.
(19) Nazism was hostile to orthodox and fundamentalist Christianity and sought to replace the cross with the swastika.
(20) Hitler referred to his scheme to take over as "Mein Kampf" or "My Plan."
(21) Hitler forced his underlings to go through occult initiation rites.
(22) Nazis believed the roots of their Aryanism were first found in Atlantis.
(23) Hitler said in Mein Kampf that the problem with Christianity lies with its Jewish antecedents.
(24) The Nazis believed a new superior mutant species of Aryans can be brought into existence by development of "Higher Consciousness."
(25) Heinrich Himmler, like many other Nazis, had an anti-Catholic bias. He even went so far as to advocate the public execution of the Pope and to compel Catholic SS members to leave the Roman Catholic faith.
(26) The Nazis, through Heinrich Himmler, developed a secret file that eventually included a dossier on nearly all Germans.
(27) Hitler moved to disassociate himself from troublesome elements supporting him whenever they proved to be embarrassing. For example, when Rohm's Brown Shirts proved to be an embarrassment, he moved to disassociate himself from them and organized the Black Shirts
(SS) in their place.
(28) The Nazis instituted a program of quietly killing children with birth defects and mental patients. Hitler instituted this program after receiving a letter from the father of a deformed child requesting that the child be put to death. One way was to starve the child.
(29) The Nazis referred to their promotion of local antisemites murdering Jews as "self-cleansing" and the murder of Jews as a "cleansing action."
(30) A common Nazi tactic was to burn down synagogues - sometimes with people in them.

 

뉴에이지 운동

(1) The New Age Movement is based on occultic practices and teachings, particularly the writings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky,
(especially The Secret Doctrine), and Alice A. Bailey, who claimed to be receiving telepathic messages from the Tibetan Master Dwjal Khul. All forms of occultism and mind expansion were permitted and encouraged within the New Age Movement.
(2) The New Age Movement teachings stress the doctrine of Aryanism and Aryan purity. See especially Alice A. Bailey's writings and the writings of David Spangler. The New Agers believe that through meditation and other "spiritual disciplines" that they have become a "new species" - homo noeticus as opposed to homo sapiens and that homo sapiens is a dying species. They teach that the Jews are from a different solar system
(Alice Bailey teachings) and that the orientals and blacks are from a different root race. Occidental races must control the world as they are presently our most evolved root race.
(3) The Secret Doctrine of occultism features hated of the Jews. The writings of Alice Bailey, which have been followed meticulously by the New Age Movement, state that the new "messiah" will not be Jewish as the Jews have forfeited that privilege and that they must pass through the fires of purification in order to learn humility.
(See The Rays and the Initiations by Alice A. Bailey. This particular passage regarding the New "Messiah" was written in 1949 when the entire world knew what had happened to Europe's Jewish population.) These teachings are also strongly opposed to "Zionism" and the possession of a homeland by the Jewish people. These teachings also state that what happened to the Jewish people in WWII was a result of their "bad national karma."
(4) Benjamin Creme says that "Maitreya the Christ" is a seventhdegree initiate. Entrance into the New Age requires a Luciferic initiation.
(5) The New Age Movement features the quest for the Holy Grail as a path to transcendental or higher consciousness.
(6) The New Agers believe in the Law of Karma and reincarnation.
(7) The New Agers and particularly David Spangler, one of the leading New Age spokespersons, state that the Luciferic energies are positive as they are the "energy of anticipation" and the energies that "get a person from here to there."
(8) The use of drugs as a catalyst in consciousness expansion has long been a part of the New Age Movement.
(9) The New Agers think they have evolved into a new and superior species - homo noeticus as opposed to homo sapiens by means of "spiritual disciplines" and "consciousness evolution."
(10) The New Agers through Curtis Sliwa have encouraged the organization of young men and women into the Guardian Angels for the purpose of patrolling cities and neighborhoods. The Guardian Angels are trained in martial arts such as karate and aikido.
(11) Members of the U.S. Military New Age-oriented First Earth Battalion are initiated in a pagan-style initiation ceremony.
(12) Many New Agers, and most top-level New Agers, advocate requiring people to be licensed in order to have children. Friends of the Earth are particularly vocal in this regard.
(13) The New Agers have an operation known as The Farm in Tennessee which has a free maternity home and women are told they can leave their babies for as short or as long a period as they like.
(As a practical matter, it is almost impossible from a legal standpoint to regain custody of a child left for a long period of time.)
(14) The New Agers encourage the recruitment and use of convicts. Signs of Christ by Harold Balyoz, specifically mentions it and there are many, many New Age projects designed specifically for the recruitment and conditioning of convicts to orient them to New Age goals.
(15) The New Age Movement seeks the institution of a New World Order in which Aryanism will prevail.
(16) The New Age Movement is a synthesis of occultism and gnosticism, based The Secret Doctrine, the Alice Bailey teaching, and a synthesis of Eastern religions and the old "Mystery Teachings."
(17) The New Age Movement has obtained the support of the rich and powerful, such as the Chase Manhattan Bank and heads of major corporations, by telling them that the New Age teachings are good for entrepreneur-ship and business, and many of the poor by telling them that they will redistribute the world's assets and establish a New World Economic Order.
(18) New Age initiates believe the gods are established in Shamballa.
(19) The New Age Movement is hostile to orthodox and fundamentalist Christianity and seeks to replace the cross with the rainbow and the swastika.
(20) The New Agers call their scheme to take over "The Plan" and the transmissions from "Lord Maitreya" through Benjamin Creme, Maitreya calls it "My Plan."
(21) The writings of Creme, Spangler, Alice Bailey, and other important New Agers state we will be forced to undergo initiation if we wish to enter the New Age alice.
(22) The New Agers trace their Secret Doctrine and occult teachings to Atlantis.
(23) Creme, Alice Bailey, Theodore Roszak, and other important New Age writers say the problem with Christianity is that it has presented a teaching of Christ "straight out of the old and outworn Jewish Dispensation."
(24) The New Agers believe a new superior mutant species of Aryans can be brought into existence by development of "Higher Consciousness."
(25) Benjamin Creme, the spokesman for Tara Center and "Maitreya the Christ," has publicly stated that the Pope will be forced to bend his knee to "Maitreya the Christ." Hatred of Catholicism shines through the Alice Bailey writings which are followed meticulously by the New Agers.
(26) The New Agers, through Buckminster Fuller and the World Game Laboratories, advocate computerizing all information whatever and allowing anyone who desires access to this information. For example, all purchases and resources whatsoever would be computerized.
(27) Marilyn Ferguson, writing in The Aquarian Conspiracy, said that the Movement was not dependent on any individual or organization because of its network composition. For example, the New Agers were proud to claim Jim Jones and his Peoples Temple as their own until his Guyana murder-suicide fiasco. After that, they never ever mentioned him again except to point to him as an example of the dangers of religious fundamentalism; yet the insiders in the Movement knew all along that he was one of theirs and never into orthodox or fundamental Christianity.
(28) New Agers have advocated and supported leglislation and medical practices of euthanasia and death by starvation and termination of life support systems. One rationale given for this is the will of the parents and the inability to support children with such immense needs.
(29) The New Agers believe that a "cleansing action" will be necessary to rid the world of "evil"
(defined as anything that causes separation. Separation is defined as caused by God-fearing religions - Jews, Christians and orthodox Moslems).
(30) At least one prominent New Ager, Gina Cerminara, has stated that when the people learn what the churches are really all about, they will probably burn them down.
